Description of Work
Employee will conduct inservice inspections; verify necessary calculations during the operation, maintenance, alteration, and/or repair of boilers and pressure vessels; guide contractors and manufacturers for repairs; if assigned, provide third-party inspection service to contractors and manufacturers constructing boilers and pressure vessels in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code; review and evaluate manufacturer’s written procedures and quality programs; provide information, guidance, and unofficial interpretation of adopted codes and standards; investigate accidents and incidents; provide written and electronic reports; provide audit services; schedule inspections, audits, repair activities, and consultations.
Must agree to relocate to live within a five-mile radius of Kinston.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be familiar with existing rules and regulations pertaining to boilers and pressure vessels; must be knowledgeable in their application; be familiar with the fabrication and design of all types of boiler and pressure vessel construction and have ability to ensure they meet requirements of established codes and standards; possess the ability to comprehend complex technical data and documentation; work independently to plan and schedule work so as to meet assigned or promised commitments; make technical decisions with limited supervision; possess the ability to establish rapport with the public to achieve cooperation and voluntary code compliance; must have good command of the English language and ability to express thoughts, ideas, and information adequately, both orally and in writing.
Training and Experience Requirements
High school and three years of experience in the construction, installation, operation, or maintenance of boilers and pressure vessels, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary special requirement: the successful completion of the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessels Inspectors Inservice Inspector Commission examination within the first nine months of employment. Priority will be given to those candidates who presently have National Board Certification. A valid North Carolina driver s license will be required. Position requires considerable walking, climbing, bending, stooping, and twisting. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
